FIELD AGENTS
Field Agents are to collect primary crop data from large-scale farms in Botswana. This hands-on role supports agricultural research through precise fieldwork on maize, sorghum, and groundnut fields for a period of eight (8) weeks.
Location: All sub-districts countrywide (must reside permanently in one of these sub-districts
Main Purpose of the Job
Working under the vision, guidance and direction of the Field Associate Manager and Field Coordinator, Field Agents will be responsible for Crop Data Collection (e.g Maize, Sorghum, Groundnuts and any other approved crop).
Key Performance Areas
Collect 30-50 farmer data points per sub-district (5m x 5m plots, spaced 1.5km-5km apart)
Perform manual harvesting of a portion of farmers' fields for yield assessment, winnowing, and threshing on 5m x 5m plots, while following the defined protocol. Conduct 2 visits per farm: Box Placement; Wet Weight Collection. Navigate rural farming communities independently using GPS points.
Completion of all the data collection activities accurately as required Submission of completed questionnaires
Survey all assigned farmers
Core Competencies
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Fluent in local languages spoken in the district.
Physically fit for manual labor in farm conditions.
Ability to work successfully with farmers, field teams and a team player
Basic literacy for data recording (training provided)
Minimum Qualifications
You have a Diploma/Certificate in Business, Development Studies, Economics, Agriculture or any other related field.
Experience
Experience in data collection and working with farmers in rural settings is an added advantage. Permanent resident of respective sub-districts.
Transport will be provided in monetary form (cash) based on assignments and estimates of public transport needs or hired depending on special needs.
Manage checklists and work plans.
Work well independently and with minimum supervision: Comfortable working solo with GPS tools.
Must have a smartphone:
o With Android version 7 and above plus access to Google Play Store.
o Good internet access, enough storage space and should be GPS enabled.
